White Silk Road In late February 2012 I accompanied three Australian professional snowboarders on a trip to Bamiyan province in the northern mountainous region of Afghanistan to document a snowboarding adventure unlike any other. In one of the most dangerous countries in the world, we discovered incredible mountains, breathtaking landscapes, and heartwarming communities of happy, hospitable people. Throughout Afghanistan’s history, conflict has been the norm and peace the exception. It was something that haunted us for the entire trip. It is a harsh and unforgiving environment, but the people are resilient. If you come in peace, they are hospitable and generous. Documenting them going about their daily lives taught us so much about ourselves and how fortunate we are to live in peaceful, developed countries.
